The Future of Hospital Presumptive Eligibility in Medicaid
Currently 33 states allow "qualified entities," which includes hospitals, to presumptively enroll children and pregnant women into Medicaid. Provisions in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expand the role of hospitals in screening patients and temporarily enrolling those who qualify. A Health Policy Brief from Health Affairs and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation reviews the guidelines established in July by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Additionally, questions surrounding the new regulations are addressed, and an explanation of the Medicaid State Plan Amendment (SPA) for hospital presumptive eligibility is given. - read more...
