No briefCASE Next Week in Honor of the Holiday Season
In recognition of the upcoming holiday season, briefCASE will not be distributed Wednesday, December 25, 2013 and Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Regular briefCASE distribution will resume on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for the New Year!

A Health Care Holiday Wish List

Recently health policy blogger Paul Keckley penned a health care wish list to Santa. Keckley made sure to include gifts for politicians, patients, doctors, students and executives. Editor-in-chief of MedCity News, Veronica Combs, condensed the list to her favorite wishes.

Some of the wishes include:
  • I wish that every member of Congress, political pundit, journalist, consultant and lobbyist engaged in health reform debate is required to work a full day in a hospital emergency room.
  • I wish U.S. high school and college curricula included a class on "how the U.S. health system works" that everyone must take to graduate.
  • I wish we could connect health services and human services programs...public clinics, food stamps, mental health programs, environment and food supply...in every community to reduce redundancy and improve population health status.

Nominate Committed and Passionate Members to Lead ACMA
It is now time to nominate individuals who will lead our association until 2016.

This year ACMA members will elect four board positions:
  • President-elect (Social Worker)
  • Board Member-at-Large (Nurse)
  • Board Member-at-Large (Nurse)
  • Board Member-at-Large (Social Worker)
(Consistent with ACMA's collaborative philosophy, the National Board of Directors maintains an equal number of Nurse and Social Worker board members. Candidates must be full members of ACMA in good standing).

Members-at-Large will serve a two-year term beginning at the 2014 Annual Meeting in Chicago on April 10, 2014 and ending at the 2016 Annual Meeting (date and location TBD).

Responsibilities include three to four live meetings and five to six conference call board meetings annually, assignments as Board Liaison to Chapters and Committees, and other leadership responsibilities. For more information on board responsibilities and the nomination process, download the Call for Nominations Information Page.

Click here to submit your nominations to the ACMA National Office. Nominations must be received by 12 p.m. CST on January 8, 2014.
