Healthcare News & Legislative Update CMS Nursing Home, Care Coordination Projects to Begin This Fall The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced demonstration projects aimed at reducing preventable hospitalizations among nursing home residents, and better care coordination for individuals enrolled in both Medicare and Medicaid. Starting this fall, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation and Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office will competitively select independent organizations to partner in a project to provide enhanced clinical services to people in approximately 150 nursing homes. According to CMS, the initiative could include using nurse practitioners, supporting transitions between hospitals and nursing facilities, and implementing best practices to prevent falls, pressure ulcers and urinary tract infections - read more...

Both ACMA and The Joint Commission encourage all organizations with distinctive case management departments to apply. Applications and payment must be received by the ACMA National Office by this date in order to take the exam during October, November or December of 2011.
