Key Readmissions Provisions - 2012 Final Rule
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires CMS to implement a program to reduce hospital readmissions for certain hospitals with excess readmissions for certain selected conditions beginning in FY 2013 for discharges on or after October 1, 2012. The rule finalizes readmissions measures for three conditions: acute myocardial infarction (i.e., heart attack), heart failure and pneumonia. CMS also finalized its definition of readmission as “occurring when a patient is discharged from the applicable hospital and then is admitted to the same or another acute care hospital within a specified time period from the time of discharge from the index hospitalization.” The specified time period being 30 days. Chris Whetsell, Chair of the ACMA Public Policy Committee, prepared an outline of the final rule - 42 CFR Parts 412, 413, and 476 - read more...

ACMA’s Compare - Benchmarking for Avoidable Delays, Readmissions & Denials

A Proven Tool for Performance Improvement
Developed in response to the needs of ACMA’s members, ACMA Compare Benchmarking has grown into a powerful and proven performance improvement tool. Subscribing organizations use Compare to assess and improve their performance in avoidable delays, readmissions and denials.

Compare Benchmarking services are available by subscription. Subscribing hospitals and health systems are able to implement and use any or all of the benchmarking services for avoidable delays, readmissions and denials. This improves tracking of these metrics, provides rich and detailed benchmarking, powerful data support for improvement initiatives, and gives the subscribing hospital access to best practice educational webinars.

If you are interested in learning more about Compare Benchmarking via a free webinar demo, please contact Randall Archer, Director of Sales and Product Development for ACMA Compare at rarcher@acmaweb.org.
