Fight to Amend the 3-Day Qualifying Stay Continues
Earlier this week a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit regarding SNF care coverage denied to 14 Medicare beneficiaries who did not meet the three-day qualifying inpatient stay requirement. The plaintiffs argued that the time they spent in outpatient observation status should count toward the three-day stay requirement because they claimed there is not much distinction between inpatient and observation services, so Medicare should have covered the expenses the seniors incurred.

National Case Management Week (NCMW) 2013 is fast approaching, October 13-19. This year's theme is Case Management: Broadening the Continuum of Care. Ensure that your facility's leadership is aware of the important contributions your department makes. Fill out a brief form with the contact information of your CEO or any executive you deem appropriate, and we will send these individuals a personalized letter from ACMA CEO L. Greg Cunningham asking them to reflect on the outcomes achieved by case management and urging him or her to recognize the efforts of case managers during this week that honors your practice.
