ABSTRACT:
This session will provide an overview of the health care reform and how it impacts case managers in their daily practices both as a consumer and a clinician. The speaker will discuss the implications policy changes will have on current and future practice. Attendees will also receive an update on the Affordable Care Act and other pending legislation.

Session 2: Hot Topics in Medicare Regulation

ABSTRACT:

The stream of new Medicare regulations never seems to stop running. The beginning of 2017 brought the MOON and by July we should see the proposal for the 2018 Inpatient Rule and have an idea of what regulatory changes will be needed. In this session, Dr Hirsch will review the most recent regulatory updates that case managers need to know.

The Social Determinants of Health (SDH) are the conditions in which we are born, grow, work, live and age. This session will focus on how we integrate this knowledge into our daily delivery of patient care, especially to vulnerable populations. The role of self-care will be explored as a strategy in providing safe and effective care to at-risk patients.

  2. Analyze three strategies to promote the health and wellness of vulnerable populations

Session 4: Trauma Informed Care in the Health Care System

ABSTRACT:

This session will determine the Principles of Trauma Informed Care. We will explore the foundational knowledge including understanding trauma, learning the basics of trauma impacts on the brain, and the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study. Time will be spent learning the concept of collective trauma and systematic oppression to assist attendees in increasing their awareness and sensitivity to how trauma can show up in our health care systems.

  1. Develop basic understanding of Trauma Informed Care Principles
  2. Examine core concepts of Neurobiology of Trauma
  3. Demonstrate skills that can be used in the health care system to begin to implement Trauma Informed Care
