ACM Recertification

YOUR ACM CERTIFICATION

As an ACM certified professional, you must meet specified requirements in order to maintain and renew your certification every 4 years. The purpose of certification renewal is to provide evidence that you have continued to expand your professional knowledge and to demonstrate continued competency in your field.

Certification says a lot about you! Your ACM credential:

  • Demonstrates your engagement. Earning your Certification through the ACMA shows your peers, supervisors, and patients your commitment to your chosen career and the case management profession at-large, as well as your ability to perform to set standards.
  • Strengthens the profession’s image. The ACM Certification seeks to grow, promote, and develop certified professionals who can serve as role models for quality clinical practice.
  • Validated your accomplishments. ACM Certification is a reflection of personal achievement because you have validated your skill set, specific to the job role you perform, by meeting the set standard.
  • Builds your self-esteem. Certification through the ACM is a step toward defining yourself beyond a job description or academic degree while gaining a sense of personal satisfaction.
  • Provides recognition. As an ACM certificant, expect increased acknowledgement from your peers for staying on top of best practices through education and training in your professional career.

RECERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

The ACM credential is valid for a four (4) year period. To recertify, forty (40) hours of continuing education are required.

  • Thirty (30) of the forty (40) hours must be specific to health care delivery system case management in your field of practice. The remaining ten (10) hours can be non-case management related.
  • Ten (10) hours of non-case management specific continuing education must be related to the practice of healthcare in the certificant’s field of practice.
NOTE: For option #1 below, one (1) continuing education credit (CE) equals one (1) 60-minute hour.

MAINTAIN AND RENEW YOUR CERTIFICATION ONLINE

ACM certified professionals can maintain and renew their certification through their ACM Certification Portal by simply logging in and selecting the “Recertification” tab. Continuing education information and documents can either be added manually, or if earned through ACMA-sponsored opportunities, they can be imported quickly and easily.

Access Recertification Portal

Prior to the expiration of your credential, be sure to log into your portal to ensure all information is up-to-date and that continuing education information provided meets the requirements of renewal. You will be required to sign an attestation and submit payment information online prior to submitting your recertification for approval. Certificants who fail to meet the recertification requirements by their certification expiration date may be subject to an additional fee of $200.00 to reinstate their credential.

As a reminder, recertification emails are sent as a courtesy. It is the certificate holder's responsibility to renew within the recertification term. Failure to renew on time may result in an expired certification.

Certificants who fail to meet the recertification requirements within 91- 180 days from the original expiration date can request an extension to reinstate their certification. Please note you will be required to submit the recertification requirements along with a $200.00 reinstatement fee. Extension requests can be sent to certification@acmaweb.org or by contacting the ACMA office at 501-907-2262.

Certifications that have expired for 181 – 365 days past their recertification term expiration date can file an appeal. For more information on the appeal process, please click here.

Please note that under NBCM guidelines, the ACM certification cannot be used in any way if it is expired.

Please be aware that ACM certified professionals may be subject to random audits of compliance with the credential requirements and should keep copies of any continuing education certificates earned for future reference.

Karen Vanaskie Scholarship Fund

Karen Vanaskie was one of case management's brightest and most dedicated professionals. She was serving as Secretary / Treasurer on the ACMA National Board of Directors at the time of her unexpected passing on June 21, 2024.

At the request of Karen's family, ACMA has set up the Karen Vanaskie Scholarship Fund. Karen was passionate about the need for case management certification. She actively supported her staff in pursuing the Accredited Case Manager (ACM) Certification. To continue her legacy, this scholarship fund will cover the cost of their ACM certification application fee for those to whom it is awarded. We believe this continues Karen's legacy.
