Teena Chopra, MD, MPH , Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease, Wayne State University School of Medicine
Teena Chopra, MD, MPH, is Professor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. After receiving her Bachelor of Science with honors in physics, chemistry and biology at S.R. Govt. College in Amritsar, India, Dr. Chopra earned her medical degree at Dayanand Medical College in Ludhiana, India. She performed her residency in Internal Medicine at Detroit Medical Center – Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where she served a fellowship in Infectious Diseases and Infection Control and another in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. Dr. Chopra was awarded a Master of Public Health by Wayne State University. Dr. Chopra is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease.

Dr. Chopra is currently Principal Investigator for industry-sponsored trials in therapies for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae and Clostridium difficile. She has published research in abstracts and original articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Expert Review of Anti-infective Therapy, Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology among others and has authored 3 book chapters. A renowned academician and mentor, Dr. Chopra has presented at conferences and annual meetings.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Society for Health Care Epidemiology of America and Infectious Diseases Society of America, Dr. Chopra is also a member of the American Geriatric Society, Michigan State Medical Society and the American Medical Association, among others. In 2017, she was honored with the Wayne State University School of Medicine Teaching Award and the Most Engaged Physician award at the Detroit Medical Center.

Karen Vanaskie was one of case management's brightest and most dedicated professionals. She was serving as Secretary / Treasurer on the ACMA National Board of Directors at the time of her unexpected passing on June 21, 2024.

At the request of Karen's family, ACMA has set up the Karen Vanaskie Scholarship Fund. Karen was passionate about the need for case management certification. She actively supported her staff in pursuing the Accredited Case Manager (ACM) Certification. To continue her legacy, this scholarship fund will cover the cost of their ACM certification application fee for those to whom it is awarded. We believe this continues Karen's legacy.
